While designs may vary all bachelor chests had one specific feature which had come to be synonymous with the term “bachelor chest”…a fold over top that could be used for a writing surface. In this particular design, Hekman went one big step further; the top unfolds to reveal a full desk top complete with partitions and a green leather writing surface tooled in gold.
